Mushroom, Egg, Chicken and Camelid

MECC

Humans are part of a planetary superorganism. They are bioculturally linked to all other species, some of them are vital to their survival. Only if we are able to find the right bridges: in this project, those bridges are the chicken and the mushroom.

Koen Vanmechelen

With MECC Vanmechelen creates an ecological circle. He challenges the boundaries that separate different species.

Art as a bridge.

Can the powerful antibodies of the camelids migrate to humans without crossing?

Koen Vanmechelen's search for more resilient and sustainable models does not only go through crossing. In the innovative MECC project (started at the 56th Venice Biennale), the solidarity between the species is central. Starting from the belief that humans are part of a planetary superorganism, MECC wants art to be the bridge between species. The central question is: can the powerful antibodies of the camelids migrate to humans without crossing?
