What are cookies?

A cookie is a small text file that is stored on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website. Cookies are frequently used to improve the functionality of websites, and as a source of information for website owners.

How do we use cookies?

The LABIOMISTA website uses Google Analytics, a service offered by Google, Inc. (hereafter ‘Google’) for analysing website traffic. To do this, Google Analytics uses ‘cookies’: text files that are placed on your computer.

The information generated by these cookies about traffic on this website – standard internet log information (including your IP address) and anonymised information about the online behaviour of the visitor – is transmitted to and stored by Google, including on servers in the United States. We mak sure to anonymise your IP address before sending it to Google.

In accordance with its privacy shield certification, Google certifies that it complies with the EU-US Privacy Shield Framework. Google may pass on the data collected by Google Analytics to third parties, if required to do so by law or if those third parties process these data on Google's behalf.

Under the terms of the Google Analytics contract, Google may not link the IP address of the person concerned to other data held by Google.

You can refuse to use cookies from Google Analytics by downloading and installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Cookies also serve to record whether or not the data subject agrees to the use of cookies on the city of Genk website, so that this should not be requested at every visit.

How to check cookies

You can check or delete cookies at will. You can delete all cookies that are already on your computer and most browsers can be set so that no cookies are installed.

Manage cookies in your browser

With most browsers, you can:

  • see which cookies you have and delete each individual one
  • block cookies from other parties
  • block cookies from certain websites
  • block the installation all cookies
  • delete all cookies when you close your browser

If you decide to delete cookies, preference settings will also be lost. Should you want to completely block cookies, as a result many websites (including ours) will not work properly and webcasts will not work at all.
