Koen Vanmechelens’ Material World will be featured in ‘Argent’, an exhibition that celebrates Anouk Vilain Gallery’s silver jubilee, which exists 25 years. This group exhibition will take place from 10 September to 9 October 2022 and is curated by Hilde van Canneyt.
The aim is to celebrate and share with the viewer, through the works on display, the passion and continuing wonder for art.
In 2004 Koen Vanmechelen showed his Cosmopolitan Chicken Project (CCP) at Anouk Vilain Art Gallery, only 4 year after the artist launched this project. Jan Hoet officially opened the exhibition. Anno 2022, the CCP grew into a world-renowned scientific/artistic project, a metaphor for mankind, reaching the 27th generation. In 2016 Vanmechelen started the Planetary Community Chicken (PCC) based on the CCP; bringing together the global and the local, crossing diversity with productivity to generate the possibility of a new, sustainable type of evolution. Material World is a taxidermy Planetary Community Chicken with chromed parts. The silver elements symbolise productivity, the biological material diversity. The message is clear: both the immaterial and the material world need each other to keep the world in balance.
